I am originally from Portugal but I have spent most of my adult life abroad. My studies and my work as a researcher took me to Italy, France, Spain and Sweden, where I specialised in virology and immunology. The focus of my research was in BSL-4 and BSL-3 viruses: the Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) and the tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV). I studied the role of the liver and the innate immune system in the onset of the pathogenesis caused by CCHFV and studied the host cellular receptors for TBEV.
After a few years doing research, I became interested in working in science support, namely in research management. My role in the management of Syn2Psy ITN is to assist the project coordinator by facilitating communication between the different beneficiaries and partners, keeping track of the timeline, budget and deliverables, managing the science communication activities of the consortium as well as the scientific events. This role allows me to make a difference in the scientific world by supporting researchers and, at the same time, thrive professionally in a highly scientific environment.
